Christmas Box

A small gratuity given to servants, etc., onĀ Boxing Day (the day after Christmas Day). In the early days of Christianity, boxes were placed in churches to collect money for various charities, and opened on Christmas Day. The contents were distributed the next day by the priests, and called the “dole of the Christmas box,” or the “box money.” It was customary for heads of houses to give small sums of money to their subordinates “to put into the box” before mass on Christmas Day. – E. Cobham Brewer

This is my Son, whom I love; with him I am well pleased. – Matthew 3:17

At the name of Jesus every knee should bow, of those in heaven, and of those on earth, and of those under the earth. Philippians 2:10 NKJV

“This Jesus of Nazareth, without money and arms, conquered more millions than Alexander, Caesar, Mohammed, and Napoleon.” – Phillip Schaff
